A painting of a pink waterlily bloom with the shadow of a dragonfly upon it.

Light and Shadow

An intended mate to 'Dragon in Flight'. In this one, I again worked with the idea of capturing light in motion, though it's more subtle this time, picking out the reflections and shadows as they appear in the watery background below the bright pink waterlily bloom.

About This Series

This beautiful bug series sort of created itself. Since I'm always looking for detail, for those small moments captured by the eye, insects and other 'beautiful bugs' have frequently become a focus for my work. While often considered pests, creepy crawlies, or even just annoyances, insects play an important role in our ecosystem. As a child I was fascinated by pillbugs, lightning bugs, and of course butterflies, but I'd forgotten how enthralling they could be until I took up art and started to really look at the world around me once more.
