Beez Kneez

Bee'z Kneez

NEWS: Bee'z Kneez has been accepted into the 'Resilience in Bloom' show at Buttonwood Art Space 1/5/26-3/25/26. You'll be able to purchase it through them during the run of the show - and contribute to Hillcrest Transitional Housing by doing so. (50% of the puchase price of all works at that show will go to Hillcrest!)

This piece, along with Crown of Gold, were created from lucky captures while photographing a stand of beautiful zinnias at the KC Zoo. I always struggle with painting flowers because my eye tends to get lost in the multitudes of petals. But each of these insects gave me an anchor, and with patience and perserverance, I was able to produce some pastel pieces I'm very happy with.

About This Series

This beautiful bug series sort of created itself. Since I'm always looking for detail, for those small moments captured by the eye, insects and other 'beautiful bugs' have frequently become a focus for my work. While often considered pests, creepy crawlies, or even just annoyances, insects play an important role in our ecosystem. As a child I was fascinated by pillbugs, lightning bugs, and of course butterflies, but I'd forgotten how enthralling they could be until I took up art and started to really look at the world around me once more.
